A report published on US news on Nov. 19, 2020, at 5:58 p.m. shows that COVID-19 lockdowns increased Obesity level all over the country, according to research Mississippi had the highest obesity rate in 2019 and the lowest rate was in Colorado.

COVID-19 pandemic is now converting to the Obesity Epidemic in the US. increasing risks and side effects of lockdowns and posing new obstacles in health services. According to Dara Lieberman, director of the trust of America’s health, said this year has overlapped many crises of this disease and COVID-19.

Obesity Rates Vary by State. 

According to a health policy nonprofit based in Washington DC. Obesity rates vary in different states. The obesity rate in Adults in 12 states is over 35%..according to the report of Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, the obesity rate has increased from 10% to 35% in just 2012 to 2018. The obesity rate is higher in the southern states, Mississippi is on top with the highest rate of obesity in 2019, which is 40.8%. while the lowest rate has been seen in Colorado, which is 23.8%, as per the report.

This report is based on data recently released by the Centers for Disease Control at Prevention’s Behavioral Risk Factor and Surveillance System, which is analyzed by the researchers of trust.  According to Survey, It was also noted that 42.4% population of the US was overweight in 2017-18.

Obesity is measured by body mass index if your body mass is 30 or above 30 then you have this disease, it did not come individually it brings so many other problems with it like heart stroke and other artillery diseases, which are leading causes of death in the country and worldwide

This year is going to break records of food insecurity due to the economic recession related to COVID-19 pandemics.

With increasing food insecurity, low-income holders are at high risk of being affected by obesity

People who live in rural areas or are less educated can face the risk of obesity, the obesity rate is higher in black individuals which are 49.6% in adults, the Latinx are in a 2nd position with a rate of 44.87%, and Asians with 17.4% while white is at 42.2%. Asian women take care of their skin, beauty, and health, that’s why the Obesity rate is Asian women is very low while Black Women have the highest rate of obesity.
